This year's Shakespeare Santa Cruz offering includes the bittersweet, romantic comedy Love's Labor's Lost and the masterpiece of revenge, Othello. Nestled in a redwood grove on the UC Santa Cruz campus, the outdoor venue is an unequaled spot to enjoy the performances offered by this world-class professional repertory company.

Also, the nearby indoor Theater Arts Mainstage will be the venue for The Lion in Winter, a drama of personality and political intrigue.

If you haven't been to Shakespeare Santa Cruz before, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. Bring a picnic and a bottle of wine, or for cooler evenings, maybe a thermos of cocoa and some brownies. Yum!

The city currently requires owners to license, vaccinate, leash and clean up after their dogs. Recommendations for the new ordinance are that leashes are between three and five feet long, no dogs allowed after dark, and you cannot have more than three dogs close together at any one time.

As a dog nut myself, the change is welcome news.
